Only 60% of Humans Have a Cellphone?

According to 3GAmeircas, as of December 2008, there are currently 4 billion cell phones in use around the world, or 60% of the population. When I first heard these numbers I was a bit surprised by the numbers because I thought it would be higher. Especially when you consider how many cell phones you see in use when you take a simple visit to the grocery store. It was reported that the largest growth when it comes to cell phone usage took place in the Latin and Caribbean countries where they saw a 16% year on year growth. When you look at the expansion of this technology, it is impressive that it has reached this level of saturation around the world. The advancements in cell phone technology has allowed for anyone from any economic background to have access to one, whether through the standard rate plot or pay as you go.

The question is where will this business go from here? Already there is talk of a new network system to replace the 3G system. The 2G Americas is pushing for the evolution of the 3G network to the next stage, the LTE network. SO yes in a few more years, we will need to replace our current phones to keep up with technology.
